There is a huge number of blind people in China,which means blind people need to avoid obstacle while walking in their daily life.The main content of this paper is obstacle detection for blindman walking based on ultrasonic technology.Obstacle detection is accomplished by ultrasonic technology among the ranging technologies in common use.Considering the basic national condition and practical significance,the design requirement of portable obstacle detection system for blindman walking is put forward.After analysing the ultrasonic ranging theory and the walking progress of ultrasonic probe,suitable model of ultrasonic probe for the obstacle detection system is selected by the comparison of several common models.Measurement information from the ultrasonic ranging module and the electronic compass module is fused to detect static obstacle.By analysing Kalman filtering and target tracking,the modeling of two kinds of target tracking filtering algorithm is put forward.The extended kalman flitering algorithm based on distance ranging for target tracking is chosen to detect moving obstacle.The obstacle detection system is introduced in the aspects of hardware and software and the main measurement modules are adjusted to improve the measurement accuracy.The experimental data indicate that the obstacle detectiong system performs excellently in detecting static obstacle and tracking moving obstacle,which brings significance in engineering application and practical use.
