Analysis Of China's Water Consumption Based On Environmental Extended Input-output Analysis

Water shortage and sewage discharge problems are getting increasingly serious in China.Water resource is a valuable natural resource,with the increasing of population and the worsening of environmental pollution,these problems will restrict the sustainable development of China's economy.The analysis of the driving factors of water consumption in China and find the path of the major industry chains that cause environmental pressure in the economic system can help the government to formulate relevant measures to carry out water conservation activities.This paper analyzes the water consumption accounts using China's input-output tables.Firstly,structural decomposition analysis method is used to analyze the driving forces of water consumption intensity,input-output structure,final demand structure and final demand scale of China from 1980 to 2013,and analyze the driving factors of crop water,blue water,gray water consumption changes by sectors.Secondly,structural path analysis is used to examine the key industrial chains.Finally,this paper identifies the key sectors of crop water,blue water and gray water,and propose China's water-saving industrial structure optimization strategy by analyzing the water use coefficient and the upstream and downstream sectors of the industry chain of key sectors.It is found that the decreases of water consumption intensity during 1980-2013 have the greatest contribution to mitigation of water consumption augment,and the final demand expands contribute mostly to the growth of water consumption.It is found that “crop cultivation?(intermediate department)?final demand ” is the key industrial chain to crop water.“livestock and livestock products?(intermediate department)?final demand ” is the key industrial chain to blue water.“Wearing apparel?(intermediate department)?final demand ” is the key industrial chain to grey water.The key sector of crop water is crop cultivation.The key sectors of blue water and grey water are crop cultivation and chemical fertilizer.
