Water is the source of life, and the basin is a breeding ground for human civilization. The status of the basin is extremely important. The basin is a key link connecting the lithosphere, the hydrosphere, the atmosphere and the biosphere, also the basin is an important place for earth's material exchange and energy transfer, and is also a social hydrological coupling system. In the context of global climate change, the demand for industrial water, agricultural water, and domestic water in the Xijiang River Basin of Guangxi is increasing and water resources are declining, and the water ecology and water environment security in the Xijiang River Basin of Guangxi face enormous challenges, and the contradiction between people and water is increasingly prominent. How to coordinate social and economic growth and water resources utilization, and resolve conflicts between people and water, urgently need to be resolved. This article takes the Xijiang River Basin of Guangxi as an example.Firstly, based on the domestic and international social hydrological system and vulnerability literature and data collection, the social hydrology system is constructed with the support of social hydrology and system theory.Secondly, the socio-economic development, water resources dynamics and ecological environment change characteristics of the study area are analyzed, and the decoupling model is used to analyze the population-water resources and economy-water resources.Thirdly, the theory of vulnerability and socio-hydrology are introduced into the research of sustainable development of river basins, and defined the concept of vulnerability of social hydrological system, also the framework of vulnerability assessment of social hydrological system is constructed, and the vulnerability of research area is evaluated and partitioned. Finally,it puts forward some suggestions for the comprehensive improvement of the Xijiang River Basin of Guangxi. The results show that:(1)The total amount of water resources and total precipitation in the Xijiang River Basin of Guangxi increased with time. The water supply, surface water supply and underground water supply all showed a downward trend. The water supply volume was high in the middle and low in the southwest.Agriculture uses the most water, followed by domestic water, while industrial and ecological environments use less water. In terms of ecological environment, with the development of industrial economy, the discharge of waste water from the Xijiang River Basin of Guangxi increased, and the net primary productivity of vegetation decreased. In terms of population, the population and population density of the Xijiang River Basin of Guangxi increased with time.In terms of economy, the total value of the primary industry, the total value of the secondary industry, and the total value of the tertiary industry increased with time.(2)The population and domestic water,GDP and total water consumption in the Xijiang River Basin of Guangxi have changed in both directions.Population and domestic water use,GDP and total water consumption are both coupled with expansion and decoupling and strong negative decoupling;50% of the county's social economy and water resources are in an uncoordinated state, and 30% of the counties are in an extremely uncoordinated state, and there are fewer counties in which the social economy and water resources are coordinated.(3)The sensitivity of the social hydrological system in the Xijiang River Basin of Guangxi increased, the pressure increased, the resilience decreased, the vulnerability increased, and the ecological environment of the basin developed in an unfavorable direction.According to the results of the assessment of the vulnerability of social hydrological systems, suggestions are made from ecological protection, industrial structure, laws and regulations.
