Dongmiaojia landslide is located about 2km downstream of the dam of the Xiaolangdi Reservoir on the Yellow River. Its stability directly affects the safety of the reservoir discharging and roads in the reservoir area.Locking landslides generally have a cumulative effect.Once the locking section breaks, the landslide body has a fast speed, large impact and wide scale. Therefore, the locking theory is used to study the Dongmiaojia landslide which is theoretical significance and practical value.(1)The engineering geological analysis method is used to study the geological characteristics of the landslide area, the development characteristics of the landslide, and the deformation mechanism. The central part of the Dongmiaojia landslide has a locking section.(2)The monitoring data of the Dongmiaojia landslide body are analyzed, and the deformation characteristics of the landslide body are summarized. The deformation of the landslide body clearly shows the characteristics of “two big heads and small middle parts”.The locking section located in the middle of the landslide body blocks the upper part. The transmission of the downward deformation of the slope indicates that the landslide is a lock-type landslide.(3)The two-dimensional discrete element method UDEC is used to study the stability of the sliding slope of different range, position and quantity of the locking section. The results show that the existence of the locking section has a strengthening effect on the stability of the slope;the larger the volume and the larger the number of the locking section in the slope, the more stable the slope is.(4)The rigid limit equilibrium method is used to calculate the stability of the landslide body under different locking sections. The results show that the locking section can increase the safety factor of the slope. The wider the locking section in the slope, the larger the amount of locking section, the slower the slope becomes at the location, the greater the safety factor of the slope is.
