Yunnan Province located in the southwest part of China, border with Laos,Vietnam and Myanmar. The climate of this region is very diverse. This area belongs to the low-latitude mountain monsoon climate, with numerous rivers and lakes. The unique natural environment constitutes a rich and diverse ecosystem type of the province, with unique biodiversity resources and abundant algae. In July 2014 and August 2016,samples were collected from Puzhehei,Dali,Lijiang,Tengchong and Shangri-La in Yunnan Province.A total of 510 samples were collected. The habitats mainly include lakes, streams, rivers, swamps, springs, puddles and channels.More than 1,000 slides were made.Atotal of 157 taxa belonging to 32 genus and 16 families of biraphid diatom were identified. One new genus was observed from Lashihai Wetland Nature Reserve in Lijiang City, and named as Qinia Liu &Kociolek. The main difference between the genus and the other genera of Cymbelloid diatom are the valve without apical pore-fields,and the two raphe ends are curved to the dorsal side. The areolae are short slit-like.There new species were found belonging to this genus,Qinia lashii Liu & Kociolek?Qinia aequalis Liu & Kociolek and Qinia dalia Liu & Kociolek.New species Gomphonema tumida Liu & Kociolek and Gomphosinica lugunsis Liu,Kociolek,You & Fan were also reported.Other two new species were also described in this research and will be published soon.1.Diatom biodiversity are relatively high in this area, but the species quality is relatively low.2.All the species belong to 16 families, among these families, the highest species number were identified from Gomphonemaceae, following are Pinnularaiceae,Cymbellaceae,Mastogloiaceae,Anomoeoneidaceae, and Rhoicospheniaceae;the lowest species number were observed from Cavinulaceae and Diadesmidaceae?3.Among the sampling sites,Lugu Lake and Shanggeri-la have the most abundant species diversity, following are Jinghong and Tengchong.Species in Dali,Lijiang and Puzhehei are rare.4.Among the sampling habitats, most of the species occurred in lakes, swampsand streams, following is river, few species was found from spring, pond and channels.5.Most of the species are commen or rare species in this research, only few of them are dominant in special area.Such as,Gomphonema minutum(Agardh)Agardh?Diploneis preudovalis Hustedt are dominant in Jinghong;Gomphonema eminens Skuja is dominant in Dali;Cymbella cymbiformis Agardh and Cymbella proxima Reimer are dominant in Lashi Lake;Cymbella cymbiformis Agardh ? Cymbella proxima Reimer and Cymbella tumida(Brébisson)Van Heurck are dominant in Lugu Lake;Encyonema supergracile Krammer & Lange-Bertalot ? Gomphonema coronatum Ehrenberg ?Brachysira neglectissima Lange-Bertalot and Navicula radiosa Kützing are dominant in Tengchong;Cymbella cymbiformis Agardh?Cymbella excisa Kützing?Reimeria sinuata(Gregory)Kociolek & Stoermer are dominant in Shanggeri-la.The results of this study provide basic data for the study of diatom taxonomy and algal diversity in China, and provide reference data for algae and environmental studies.
