Climate Comfort Region In Chinese Mainland:Its Seasonal Fluctuation And Type Distribution

As a kind of public welfare resource,pleasant climate(comfortable climate or suitable climate)is the basic condition of human's living environment and human's activities.It has an important impact on urban planning,architectural design,human health and tourism development and has received long and sustained attention in geography and climatology.In view of the shortcomings of ‘Climatic comfort' and ‘Climate-comfortable period' in describing the pleasant climate,this paper puts forward a new perspective of ‘Climate-comfortable region(CCR)' to expand the evaluation on region-climatic comfortableness.We define the Climate-comfortable region(CCR)as the geographical space carrier of pleasant climate,which holds the pleasant climate level that makes the human body feel not so cold or not so hot during a certain period of time.The exploration of the spatio-temporal emergence characteristics of the CCR in the country can theoretically enrich the assessment of region-climatic comfortableness.In practice,it can provide reference values for the construction of human's settlements and the human's manufacture and life in areas affected by pleasant climate.This paper uses daily average meterological data of 824 basic meteorological stations in Chinese mainland for nearly half a century(from 1961 to 2010)and bases on Temperature-humidity index(THI)in exploring the seasonal fluctuation and type distribution characteristics according to three aspects of the CCR in Chinese mainland.The main research contents are as follows: 1)Proposes and quantitatively defines four kinds of CCR with different stability;2)Based on the ‘climate-comfortable regions of perennial' : The potential climate-comfortable regions and climate-uncomfortable regions for a year in Chinese mainland are identified;Spatially,the CCR emerges on a typical date and the seasonal fluctuations of the center of gravity of the CCR duringthe year are summarized;In terms of time,the annual area fluctuation and inter-decadal area variation of the CCR of the Chinese mainland are analyzed in detail;3)Based on the ‘climate-comfortable regions of perennial and stable' : the spatial distribution of different types of the CCR in Chinese mainland are presented according to the differences of three characteristics.At the same time,this paper proposes three research directions about the CCR in the future,such as using multiple models for validation,explorating cold / hot CCR,and explorating on CCR for tourism especially.
