The vertical cavity surface emitting laser has been widely used in the field of gas sensing,optical interconnection and data transmission because of its low threshold current,high modulation rate and easy coupling with fiber.In order to increase the wavelength tuning range of the tunable laser and improve the reliability and stability of the system,In this paper,we design a tunable liquid crystal vertical cavity surface emitting laser with a central wavelength of 852 nm.The physical principle of the structure to obtain a wide range of wavelength tuning and single polarization stable output is analyzed.The reflection matrix corresponding to the thickness of different liquid crystal layers under the whole device is further calculated by the transfer matrix method.The lasing wavelengths of the lasers with different thickness and refractive index of liquid crystal were obtained.The simulation results of the tuning range of wavelength of liquid crystal tunable laser designed in this paper reach 31 nm and the tuning efficiency is more than 10 nm / V.The experimental results show that the tuning range is 27 nm and the tuning efficiency is 9nm / V.
