In recent years,a simple and compact tunable semiconductor laser-V-cavity tunable semiconductor laser is reported and start to industrialize.The laser consists of two cavities and a half-wave coupler.The laser structure does not involve any grating or epitaxial regrowth,which make the laser has advantages of compactness,fabrication simplicity and great potential for low cost.These advantages not only enable the V-cavity laser to be used in optical communication and network,but also make the laser has great potential in biological sensing and spectral measurement which need the wavelength of the source tuning continuously.In this paper,for the application in sensing and spectral measurement,we research the quasi-continuous wavelength tuning performance of V-cavity laser.Our work and experiment are as following:After researching on the structural characteristics and tuning mechanism of V-cavity laser.A simple algorithm of the quasi-continuous tuning of V-cavity laser is proposed,which only employ two inject electrodes.A calibration process for quasi-continuous wavelength tuning is proposed with high automation.Besides,high speed circuit for inject current control and high speed test system are designed and fabricated.Based on the thermal-optic effect and temperature induced gain spectrum shift,16nm quasi-continuous wavelength tuning range is realized at the fixed temperature with the power flatness is less than 3 dB.The tuning range can be extended to 40nm that cover the full C-band as a result of temperature variation of 49℃.The Side-Mode Suppression Ratio of the full band tuning is higher than 33 dB.
