Water is one of the indispensable and important natural resource for human life and social and economic development.As a basic discipline for the study of the temporal and spatial distribution of water,movement characteristics,and the law of change,hydrology is crucial to the development and utilization of water resources.The connotation and extension of hydrology are very rich,but the collection,management and analysis of hydrological data are the basis of other work.With its powerful spatial data management and analysis advantages,GIS has become more and more widely used in many fields including hydrology and water resources,the use of GIS to collect,organize,store,browse,query and statistics hydrological data has become an important trend in the management and analysis of hydrological data,and even hydrological information.According to the specific characteristics and requirements of hydrological work,the design and development of thematic geographic information system for hydrology has important theoretical and practical value for improving management level and visualization of hydrological data.This article discusses the domestic and international research status of hydrological information management,GIS technology development,and the application of GIS in the field of hydrology,analyzing the relevant theoretical basis and key technologies of the hydrological thematic geography from aspects of hydrology,geographic information systems,component GIS.The information system adopt the software engineering idea,determine the system design goals and principles through requirement analysis.On this basis,the hydrological thematic geographic information system consists of the overall system architecture,data model,data structure,function modules and system interface.And used Arc Engine component GIS development tools,relying on the.Net development platform,and using the C# programming language to develop the system,the main functions of thematic geographic information system for hydrology system such as organization and management of hydrological data,browsing display,query and retrieval,spatial analysis,thematic mapping,and finishing output were realized.Finally,the hydrological geography information systems of Datong and Zhangzhou in Shanxi Province were used as examples to demonstrate,test,and analyze the system.The design,development and application of hydro-geographical information systems show that thematic hydrological GIS oriented to the management and analysis of hydrological data can provide a powerful graphic and integrated management and analysis platform for hydrological work,which greatly improves the level of hydrological information.
