Soil salinization results in deterioration of physical and chemical characters of soil,affect crop yield and restrict economic development.There are 0.3million hectare of saline soil in Shanxi province,of which the Datong basin accounts for more than two thirds of the area.This seriously restricts the sustainable and healthy development of ecological environment in Datong basin.In this paper,four kinds of sulfur materials,including desulfurization gypsum,sulfur,ferrous sulfate and aluminum sulfate were used to improve soda saline soil in Datong basin.Furthermore,the optimum dosage and the best materials of sulfur materials were identified.The main findings are as follows:1.The most effective rates of desulfurization gypsum,sulfur,ferrous sulfate and aluminum sulfate for improving the saline soil at datong basin were 22.5t/hm2?0.58 t/hm2?4.5 t/hm2?1.85 t/hm2,respectively.2.Based on the results of the experiment on effects of desulphurization gypsum,sulfur,ferrous sulfate and aluminum sulfate on the improvement of soda salt soil and salt migration rule of soda,it can be concluded that:(1)Sulfur containing materials could reduce soil pH and increase EC.The sulfur content had significant effect on the pH of 0-20cm soil.The EC of 0-20cm varied and the soil EC of 20-60cm was relatively stable.(2)Sulfur-containing materials could reduce the ESP,SAR and water-soluble Na+ of soil,among which ferrous sulfate had the best effect,followed by desulfurization gypsum,sulfur and aluminum sulfate.During the corn growing period,the soil water soluble Na+ and was correlated with soil depth,the deeper the soil layer,the higher the water soluble Na+content.The maximum decline of the ESP of ferrous sulfate,desulfurization gypsum,sulfur and aluminum sulfate was 55.1%,51.1%,47.7%and 46.3%,respectively,relative to the control(CK).Application of desulphurization gypsum,sulfur,ferrous sulfate and aluminum sulfate resulted in a greater reduction of SAR of 0-20cm relative to CK,with the maximum decline of 43.8%,35.8%,51.1%and 25.9%,respectively.(3)Sulfur-containing materials could reduce soil HCO3-and CO32-and increase SO42-content.After harvest,desulfurization gypsum,sulfur,ferrous sulfate and aluminum sulfate had lower HCO3-than CK,with the greatest reduction of 15.1%,10.1%,17.6%and 8.1%,respectively.The CO32-content increased as soil depth increased during entire growing period.Desulfurization gypsum,sulfur,ferrous sulfate and aluminum sulfate had greater SO42-content than CK,with an increase of 7.81-fold,1.78-fold,5.69-fold times and 3.5-fold,respectively.(4)After harvest,sulfur-containing materials could reduce the total salinity of soil,and the effect of reducing salt of the sulfur-containing materials:Ferrous sulfate>Desulfurization gypsum>sulfur>and aluminum sulfate.(5)Sulfur-containing materials could reduce soil bulk density,increase effective phosphorus and increase maize yield.Sulfur-containing materials could increase the yield of maize.Desulfurization gypsum,sulfur,ferrous sulfate and aluminum sulfate increased maize yield_by 36.7%,16.5%,43.5%and 12.0%respectively.In conclusion,among the four sulfur-containing materials,ferrous sulfate was the best for improving saline soil,followed by desulfurization gypsum,sulfur,and aluminum sulfate.
