The research carried out in the paper is about the ultimate bearing capacity of slope foundation and stability of foundation slope after its landslide.The slope foundation is the foundation of a observation deck which belongs to Sandaozhuang Open-pit Mine of the China Molybdenum Co.Ltd.Based on the Limit Equilibrium Theory,the formulas for ultimate bearing capacity of slope foundation under the Mohr-Coulomb strength criterion and Hoek-Brown strength criterion are derived respectively in third chapter,and the ultimate bearing capacity of slope foundation under natural conditions and storm conditions is calculated by the derived formulas.By using Finite Element Analysis software ABAQUS,the ultimate bearing capacity of slope foundation under natural conditions and storm conditions are simulated respectively in forth chapter with Mohr-Coulomb Yield Criterion,Linear Elasticity and Incremental Plastic Constitutive Relationship.Then comparing the ultimate bearing capacity calculated by theoretical calculation with that obtained by numerical simulation so as to verify the accuracy and reliability of the derived formulas.Based on Shear Strength Reduction Method,setting cohesion C and internal friction angle? as parameters relating to shear strength reduction factor,the field variable,and taking the inflection point of the displacement in feature part as the criterion of instability,then the stability safety factor of foundation slope is obtained by ABAQUS.From researches carried out in the paper,conclusions are reaching as following:the ultimate bearing capacity of the slope foundation under the Mohr-Coulomb strength criterion is 1088kPa in natural conditions and 640kPa in storm conditions,while under the Hoek-Brown strength criterion is 1313kPa in natural conditions and 1210kPa in storm conditions,so that the load applied from upper observation deck is less than the ultimate bearing capacity in both nature and storm condition,and the slope foundation is under safity in the aspect of bearing capacity.The result obtained by ABAQUS numerical simulation shows that the ultimate bearing capacity of the slope foundation is 935kPa in natural conditions and 525kPa in storm conditions,and the load applied from upper observation deck is less than the ultimate bearing capacity in both nature and storm condition,so that the slope foundation is safe in the aspect of bearing capacity.The stability safety factor of foundation slope under nature conditon is around 1,it means that the foundation slope is in the critical state of instability;stability safety factor under storm conditon is around 0.94,less than 1,it demonstrates that the foundation slope is prone to instability.From the onset of slope instability to it's full destruction,there remains a space of about 0.3 for the reduction factor,indicating that the slope has a buffer from the onset of instability to complete destruction,the landslide occurs in the in the area below the top of the hilltop when it fails completely.
