As a new kind of structure, box culvert sea-roads, characterized by good permeability, are suitable to build sea-roads on soft soil in shallow water. The paper mainly studies the ultimate bearing capacity of box culvert sea-roads on soft soil with FEM program PLAXIS.First, comparing the material models for soil provided by PLAXIS, the paper selects Mohr-Coulomb Model to set up a numerical model.Secondly, according to the shape of P-S curve, the paper defines the load value, corresponding to the slope of the curve near zero, to be the ultimate bearing capacity of box culvert sea-roads on soft soil.Thirdly, the paper mainly studies the ultimate horizontal bearing capacity and ultimate vertical bearing capacity of box culvert sea-roads on soft soil. The influence factors of structure dimension and parameters of soil are analyzed, and on the basis of the results from numerical calculation, simplified formulas for computing the ultimate bearing capacity of box culvert sea-roads on soft soil are concluded. Finally, the paper does force analysis on actual engineering project by two methods: numerical analysis and simplified formulas. The results of each calculation are coincident with the other, demonstrating that the simplified formulas concluded in the paper are effective. Based on this, the simplified formulas are used to analyze the stability of this engineering project, and some partial safety factors are obtained, which are used to set up a simplified method for evaluating the stability of box culvert sea-roads.In conclusion, this paper mainly does analysis on the ultimate bearing capacity of box culvert sea-roads on soft soil, and simplified formulas are successfully proposed. The research findings have great significance on the application of the structure on offshore construction.
