In yeast, the GCN system will be activated to suppress the start of protein translation when the yeast cell is subjected to amino acid starvation. As amino acid is deficiency,GCN20-GCN1 complex physically interacts with the eIF2? kinase GCN2 and activate GCN2.The phosphorylation eIF2? will miss the function of activate protein translation. In arabidopsis thaliana, the similar GCN system is also exist.AtGCN20 is homology with GCN20 in yeast, however, the function of AtGCN20 is not clear. In order to research the role of AtGCN20,we acquire the mutant of GCN20.We find that the germination green rate of gcn20 is reduced, and the germination rate will be recovered. In addition to the phosphorylation eIF2? will rise in gcn20 mutant, but which is lower in Col.In conclusion,AtGCN20 can take part in ABA response and regulate the beginning of protein translation.
