Analysis Of The Status Quo And Prospects Of Sino-Russian Energy Cooperation Under The “Belt And Road Initiative” Initiative

In the past 30 years of reform and opening up,China has witnessed rapid economic development and made astonishing achievements.Along with the steady progress of industrialization and urbanization,China has become a global energy demand country.In order to meet energy demand in a timely and effective manner,energy cooperation is an inevitable choice.Russia has vast territory and abundant resources,and its economic development largely depends on energy exports.Therefore,Russia is also eager to seek cooperation from reliable energy-importing countries.Furthermore,China and Russia are located close to each other and have stable political relations.It is necessary for both parties to carry out energy cooperation between China and Russia.In particular,the "The Belt and Road" strategic background gives more meaning to energy cooperation between the two countries.Energy cooperation between China and Russia can be traced back to the early 1990 s.Although once stranded,the cooperation between the two countries is still ongoing.Overall,China and Russia are in good condition in energy cooperation,but there are still many problems.China and Russia should draw lessons from past cooperation and face existing problems.Considering the actual situation of each other,China and Russia should adhere to the concept of interconnection and win-win cooperation advocated by “The Belt and Road”,diminish divergences and avoid contradictions,strengthen mutual energy cooperation both in width and depth,and promote sustained and steady economy development of two countries.Under the new background of “The Belt and Road”,this paper aims to solve the following problems in energy cooperation between China and Russia: poor energy infrastructure,unsolved energy security issues,challenges of new energy technology,geopolitical influences,interest game between two countries,imperfect energy financial system and difficulties in communicating with countries along the route,etc.By analyzing the causes and solutions of problems mentioned above,this paper aims to promote a smoother development of Sino-Russian energy cooperation,enhance the international image of China and Russia,set an example of regional cooperation and expand the international influence of “The Belt and Road”.
