| With the development of higher education in China, the gender gap on admission has shrunk. Now new trend has come that the proportion of women in higher education is excessing man’s.Based on this background, this paper studies what effect the sex ratio change will bring to labor market from micro and macro perspective. This paper found that highly educated women have a higher labor participation rate than women with lower academic qualifications. And compared with men who have the same qualifications, women with bachelor degree have more advantages while women with postgraduate education seem less competitive than men in labor market.Talking about income, highly educated women have a higher rate of return on education. On the one hand, higher education is still worth the investment compared with lower level education. On the other hand,it helps narrow the gender gap in labor market. As for the intensity of work, highly educated women work harder than men and women with postgraduate education seem work even harder. This study also found that highly educated women prefer to work in cities especially big cities and they also gather in some industries because of gender segregation. What’s more, they also prefer to choose a job in the third industry thus helps promote China’s economic transformation. From what this study has found,it’s important that more emphasis should be put on the problems under the new trend of higher education. For government, there has much to do,such as balancing regional development, speeding up educational reform, changing the division of family labor and caring for the physical and mental health of highly educated women.Only in this way,can highly educated women really become an important force to promote economic growth. |
