Research On The Relationship Between Energy Efficiency And Economic Growth In China Based On PSTR Model

Energy is an important material foundation of national economic growth and social development,as well as a crucial resources of human society survival and development,and it is also an important strategic material of protecting national economic security.However,with the speeding up process of China's industrialization and urbanization,problems concerning rising demand of new energy?lack of resources and environment damages become more serious.China is a large energy consumer,with the amount of energy resources owned per person stands no more than half of the world average.How to improve the energy efficiency and achieve sustainable economic and social development has become an urgent problem to solve.Therefore,based on existing theories,this article discusses the relationship between energy efficiency and economic growth in China through theoretical and empirical analysis,and provides reasonable policies and suggestions to improve energy efficiency to accommodate the new normal economic.It introduces the background and significance of this paper firstly,and analyzes relevant papers in energy efficiency and economic growth,and shows that there are few researches focused on the relationship between energy efficiency and economic growth.Existing papers studying the interdependent relationship between energy efficiency and economic growth only focus on the linear relationship between them,so this paper researches the nonlinear relationship.This paper uses super efficiency DEA method to calculate the energy efficiency of China and its 30 provinces during 2000-2014,and analyzes the difference of energy efficiency and possible reasons.Based on the panel smooth transition regression(PSTR)model,this paper empirically researches the relationship between energy efficiency and economic growth.The empirical results show that there is mechanism conversion effect between economic growth and energy efficiency.When the economic development is in the low income levels,the relationship between energy efficiency and economic growth is linear;While the economic development is in the higher income levels,the relationship between energy efficiency and economic growth becomes nonlinear;And the relationship smoothed the conversion between different mechanism which is bounded by the threshold of per capita GDP.The relationship between the economic growth and energy efficiency is not the same in different stages,so according to the local economic development,every province should accelerate the transformation of the ways of economic growth,adapt to China's New Nomal and improve energy efficiency.
