On Griffin’s View Of Constructive Postmodern Sciences

With the high-speed development of modern sciences and technologies,great changes have taken place in human social life.The progress of sciences not only provides the material wealth,but also to a great extent,changes people’s way of thinking.However,accompanying by the development of modern sciences and technologies,the shortcomings of modern scientific view are shown clearly.They mainly refer to three aspects: the separation of the subjective and the objective,the serious fracture of value and reality,the dissociation of humanity and science.From the perspective of modern world,world has become incoherent.As a result,people have lost the overall grasp of the whole world.David Ray Griffin,as an important representative of constructive post-modernism,through profound reflection and criticism of the views of modern sciences and deconstructive postmodern sciences,strives to construct a view of constructive postmodern sciences,which transcends the existing views of modern sciences and deconstructive postmodern sciences.Under the guidance of a worldview of Marxist sciences,this paper uses the methods of literature analysis and comparative analysis.In the paper,author tries to reveal the emergence background,scientific bases,philosophical foundations and introduces the basic contents of the Griffin’s constructive postmodern sciences.Based on Marxist scientific view,author gives a comprehensive evaluation of Griffin’s view of constructive postmodern sciences,which includes its theoretical contributions and the shortages.It also shows the positive influences to the social practice and academic research in China.This paper holds that the birth of Griffin’s view of constructive postmodern sciences gives the credit to both realistic background of the ecological crisis and belief crisis caused by the modern industrial civilization,and to the scientific theories such as relativity and quantum mechanics.It also owes to both the solid philosophical foundation of Whitehead’s process philosophy,and to the strong religious background.The basic contents of Griffin’s view of constructive postmodern sciences includes the theory of pan-experientialism,integrate organism and non perception theory.This kind of constructive postmodern scientific view emphasizes the unity of human and nature,the unity of sciences and humanities,both positive and negative effects caused by sciences,which has important values.David Ray Griffin gives a harsh criticism not only in the view of modern sciences which has the dominant status in western society,but also in the view of deconstructive postmodern sciences.On the basis of process philosophy,he creatively constructs the view of constructive postmodern science.Griffin’s view of constructive postmodern sciences plays an extremely important role in the history of western philosophy and the development of sciences.At the same time,it also has great importance to the process of contemporary socialist modernization construction of China.It also gives great reflections on how to correctly evaluate and makes full use of the positive side of modern sciences and technologies.It also pays great attention to eliminate and overcome the negative impacts of modern sciences and technologies.
