| China,as one of the largest developing countries in the world, poverty has been a serious problem in economic development. In China, the poor are mainly concentrated in the rural areas where the level of economic development is relatively backward, and the traditional industries with traditional agriculture as the main economic source have significantly weakened their contribution to improving rural poverty.Non-agricultural industry has become the main source of farmers’ income [1].Therefore,to improve the income of farmer and to promote rural economic development, new ways by which can reduce rural poverty need to be found. Some scholars have proposed that in order to alleviate rural poverty,it is important to change the structure of urban and rural residents,by promoting the relocation of rural residents to urban areas based on the speed up of urbanization. This paper intends to discuss how the proportion of urban and rural residents effects the poverty reduction on the basis of full investigation, literature review and data collation, and combine with the theoretical research and empirical research. The first chapter introduced the background and the significance of this research.Reviewed the relevant research studied by Chinese and foreign scholars.Present the main content, research ideas and the procedures of this research; The second chapter explained some relevant conceptions and theories, like urbanization,urban-rural migration, the theory of Poverty, the theory of Population Migration; The third chapter studied the urbanization and urban-rural relocation caused by urbanization, and briefly described the change of the proportion of urban and rural residents; The fourth chapter analyzed the effects of poverty reduction on the change of the proportion of urban and rural residents from two aspects, direct effect and indirect effect, and roughly determined the contribution rate of urban and rural residents’ structural change in the process of poverty reduction. Then, analyzed how the structure of urban-rural residents effects on poverty reduction; The fifth chapter discussed the effects of urban-rural proportion on poverty reduction in depth, based on the conclusion of the fourth chapter,by using econometric theories and methods such as stability test,co-integration test and Granger causality test;Chapter six put forward some relevant policy suggestions based on the above theoretical and empirical analysis.Studies showed that the proportion of urban population continues to rise, with the process of urbanization and urban-rural migration caused by urbanization. The change in the proportion of urban and rural residents promote the poverty reduction from both directs effect and indirect effects. The empirical test also showed that the increase in the proportion of urban population from the perspective of long-term stability is conducive to improving the rural poverty situation. |
