Research On The Influence Of Technology Innovation On The Upgrading Of Industrial Structure

The rapid development of economy created the China Miracle sine the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy.However,the miracle is at the cost of extreme wasting of resources and severe pollution of environment.After the development of four decades,inefficient development pattern has been restricted by resources and environment.The lack of internal motivation of sustainable economic growth has seriously hindered the upgrading process of industrial structure.Therefore,changing the development pattern of economy and breaking through the barriers of resources and environment have become the core issues of economic transition at present.In order to encourage innovation,the Chinese government issued some policies and instructions such as the National Outline of Innovation-driven Development Strategy and the mass entrepreneurship and innovation.Technology innovation is the power source of industrial structure upgrading and plays an important role in the upgrading process.Based on the background,the following questions are raised,what is the relationship between technology innovation and industrial structure upgrading? What effect do technology innovation have on the upgrading of industrial structure? The dissertation answered the questions above according to the following framework and chapters.First chapter,the introduction explains the fundamental points such as the background,questions,purposes,significance,contents,ideas,methods and potential innovations of the research.Second chapter,the literature review summarizes the concept and measurement of technology innovation,and illustrates the theoretical and empirical researches on the effect of technology innovation on the upgrading of industrial structure.Third chapter,the mechanism analysis explains the mechanism how the technology innovation influences the industrial structure change from different aspects.The perspective of production factor allocation: using the Edgeworth box diagram to discover that the effect of technology innovation on the upgrading of industrial structure is positive,negative or non-significant.The perspective of industrial development: traditional industries can increase the productivity,enhance the product quality and lower the cost via the innovation of craft and process;High-tech industries can promote the R&D of new product via the innovation of material,design and craft.The perspective of social demand: technology innovation can change the structure of consumption,investment and export via developing new products,stimulating consumption potential and expanding the production scale.Fourth chapter,the present condition analysis describes the current state of innovation input,output,environment and diffusion from nation and region aspects.This part use the comentropy method to measure the nationwide and regional technology innovation and reveals the overall lack of technological innovation in the country and regions.Moreover,this part describes the condition of industrial structure based on total output value,growth rate,employment and manufacturing industries.Fifth chapter,correlation analysis indicates that technology innovation is positively related to the upgrading of industrial structure both in nation and region.Beside,this part specifically analyzes the correlation between the factors of technology innovation and the upgrading of industrial structure.Sixth chapter,after testing the stationarity and co-integration of the data,the empirical and metrical analysis applies static and dynamic panel data and instrumental variable to analyze the influence of technology innovation on the upgrading of industrial structure.The results elaborated as follows:(1)Nationwide,technology innovation has a significant positive effect on the upgrading of industrial structure;(2)Regionally,the positive effect in the east is greater than that in the midland;(3)In the west,technology innovation has a significant negative effect on the upgrading of industrial structure.Furthermore,in order to explore the effect systematically,this part draws the following conclusions:(1)The capital investment,output and diffusion of technology innovation have negative influences on the upgrading of industrial structure;(2)The effect of labor input is positive and significant;(3)The positive effects of capital investment and output are not significant in three different regions;(4)The positive effect of labor input is significant in all three regions;(5)The effect of innovation diffusion is significant but negative.The last chapter put forward four primary policy proposals according to the research conclusions.Aspect of technology innovation input,the government should increase the investment of R&D expenditure and improve the structure of R&D expenditure;cultivate more R&D employees;enact effective incentive measures.Aspect of technology innovation output,different sectors should take the systematical advantages of the government,the enterprises,the universities,the research institutions and the consumers.Aspect of innovation environment,the government should improve the establishment of institution and eliminate the institutional obstacles.Aspect of innovation diffusion,the government and enterprises should promote the transformation of innovative products and bridge the gap between the innovation and application.In a word,following the route of theoretical analysis,empirical analysis and suggestions,the research integrates normative analysis with empirical analysis and deeply explore the relationship between the technology innovation and the upgrading of industrial structure under the framework of mechanism analysis.The technology innovation is the start and the upgrading of industrial structure is the end.The research plays an important role in not only discovering the problems and obstacles of the technology innovation but also promoting the upgrading of industrial structure and the ability to innovate.We hope that the dissertation can provide some evidence for the research and practice.
