Research on organizational culture started in the 1980 s,and was introduced into China in the late 1980 s.After over thirty years’ development,organizational culture theories are nearly mature and are adopted in enterprise management all over the world.Native research—research on organizational culture of companies in a specific political,economic and socio-cultural environment is one of the most studied areas of organizational culture.Transformed from collective economy in China’s urbanization,urban village collective companies are a kind of companies with Chinese characteristics.There’s no research on organizational culture of this kind of companies so far.Therefore,this thesis aims at exploring organizational culture of urban village collective companies based on case study of Sanyuanli Group.In theory,this thesis will contribute Chinese characteristics to research on organizational culture;in practice,this thesis may provide useful experience to other urban village collective companies as organizational culture entails one company’s secrets to success.To achieve the research goal,this thesis answers the following questions:(1)what is Sanyuanli Group’s organizational culture?(2)What are the features of Sanyuanli Group’s organizational culture and what are the major factors contributing to them?(3)What major functions does Sanyuanli Group’s organizational culture perform? In this thesis a qualitative research method is adopted based on the structure of organizational culture.The data is collected through in-depth interviews,which is categorized based on the structure of organizational culture for analysis.In the end,three major findings are obtained:(1)Sanyuanli Group has an organizational culture with core values of unity,pioneering spirit,trust,sense of responsibility,democracy,openness and transparency,which is fully reflected on other aspects of its organizational culture—its symbols,heroes,systems and rites & rituals;(2)Sanyuanli Group’s organizational culture demonstrates four features: high social responsibility,great influence from government,exclusivity to Sanyuanliers,and high level of democracy,openness and transparency,which is shaped by mixed factors of market environment,leadership,history,socio-cultural background and political factors together;(3)Sanyuanli Group’s organizational culture performs four major functions in promoting the development of the company,namely,orienting the organization,stipulating organization and staff behavior,uniting the organization and stimulating employees.
