An Analysis Of Intercultural Communication Competence Of International Tour Guides In Tianjin

The development of tourism industry in Tianjin requires much more qualified international tour guides than ever before.However,differences in languages,thinking patterns,behavioral habits and other aspects often cause failures in intercultural communication.So,it is necessary to make an analysis on the ICC of international tour guides to find out what the problems are,why it happened and what we should do to improve the competence.By using the instrument of questionnaire,the thesis makes an analysis on the intercultural communication competence(ICC)of international tour guides in Tianjin with Y.Y.Kim's model of ICC as theoretical basis and attempts to give some useful advice to improve the situation.The research shows that,international tour guides in Tianjin do well in foreign language use,while cultural difference identification from aspects of thinking pattern,values,convention as well as nonverbal communication and practical aspect are the weak points.In addition,demographic variables like gender,age,education background,foreign language level,oversea experience and training courses also have impact on ICC.On account of these,the author puts forward several possible advice including cultivating cultural empathetic ability and learning to understand cultural difference between China and other countries,refining pre-job training contents and simulating intercultural situational experience.
