Evaluation Of China’s Coastal City Human Settlement Vulnerability

Along with the flourishing progress of urbanizing and rapid growth of urban economics,cities have replaced the function of rural area to become the most crucial human settlement.Regarded as the frontier of economic boosting and China’s most developed region,coastal cities possess the distinctive features such as high density of population,complete infrastructure and social development in a steady pace,coastal cities become a desired location where more and more people wish to settle down.However,with population pouring in those areas,what’s accompanied by is real estate bubble,bad trafficing,insufficient social security and city smog etc.All of those flaws are causing a huge impact towards human settlement’s sustainable developent,becoming a huge potential threat to human settlement’s vulnerability which can no be ignored.This paper starts with the referrence review regarding relationship between vulnerability and human settlement,summarize the lastest research progress both domestic and aboard.Enriching the definition of urban living settlement vulnerability as well as a brief introduction of research area based on a deep research concerning vulnerability theory and the science of human settlement theory,constructing a human settlement vulnerability evaluation system specifically applies to China’s coastal cities features.According to the correlative data from2012-2014,index weight was measured by using entropy method,human settlement vulnerability of the corresponding 53 coastal cities was calculated by using set pair analysis method.Low vulnerability number cities are Shenzhen,Zhuhai,Quanzhou.Typical medium vulnerability number cities are Shanghai and Tianjin.High vulnerability number cities are Shantou,Qinzhou,Jieyang.From a spatial perspective,China ’ s coastal cities shows an uneven human settlement vulnerability distribution,there is a significant difference among each city even the ones in the same province.Cities’ vulnerability distribution pattern are shifting from “olive type” to “dumbbell type”.According to timeline,coastal human settlement vulnerability appears to be growing in a very small extent with fluctuations.High vulnerability cities possesses a much higher fluctuation extent than the lower ones.Finally based on the influnce factors of human settlement vulnerability,several policy proposals are drawn targeted to decrease the vulnerability of city human settlement,providing proof and evidence to maintain human settlement’s sustainable development.
