With the increasingly severe pollution and short of resources, environmental problems have received much attention from governments, firms and customers. An increasing number of firms begin to conduct green supply chain management and implement green supply chain integration, including internal green integration, supplier green integration and customer green integration. This study explores the relationship between internal green integration, supplier green integration customer green integration and eco-innovation performance and financial performance. The research also draws on contingency theory by introducing firm-level absorptive capacity as a moderator to test the importance of internal fit, using hierarchical linear regression model tested in a cross-national study of machinery, electronic, and transportation components industries in China and Europe(Germany and Italy)conducted by High Performance Manufacturing project(HPM).The results of hierarchy linear regression model show that:(1)internal green integration, supplier green integration and customer green integration are all positively related with both eco-innovation performance and financial performance.(2)absorptive capacity positively moderates the positive relationship between internal green integration, supplier green integration and eco-innovation performance in both China and Europe settings. However, the positive effects of customer green integration on eco-innovation is weakened as absorptive capacity increases in the case of European firms, while this relationship is not supported in the China model.(3)the relationship between internal green integration, external green integration and financial performance is partially mediated by eco-innovation performance in the China model, while this relationship is fully mediated by eco-innovation performance in the case of European firms. The results are of great meaning for firms to recognize the importance of green supply chain integration and internal fit.
