The Influence Of Imported Intermediate Products' Quality On Total Factor Productivity Of Firms

With the vertical specialization degree deepening,intermediate goods trade has become an important part of our country and the globalization of production,many domestic and foreign scholars have done related research,which focuses on the impact of imports of intermediate goods on the exploration of productivity.But until now,there is no unanimous conclusion,which requires us to make a more precise study on the influence of import intermediate on productivity.In recent years,Alexis(Antoniades)(2015)as the representative of some of the literature has proposed a product quality biochemical model,will be regarded as exogenous product quality,into the enterprise profit maximization behavior.The theory of product heterogeneity and the introduction of the endogenous biochemical model provide us with a new perspective to observe the effect of imported intermediates on the productivity of enterprises.In view of the domestic and foreign research on this aspect is still very inadequate,with the imports of intermediate goods quality as the entry point to study impact on tfp.Based on the heterogeneity of enterprise theory,this paper uses Amit K & Khandelwal(2013)method,with the help of Chinese customs database data to measure Chinese enterprises to import 2000-2006 seven years of intermediate product quality;with the help of China industrial enterprise database data,with the total factor productivity of semi parametric LP method to measure enterprise.In Alexis Antoniades(2015)model is proposed based on assumptions and construct an econometric model,and then used to estimate the fixed effects panel,promote the relationship between the imports of intermediate goods quality on TFP is verified from two levels of overall and group.Through empirical analysis,we get the following conclusions:(1)China's imports of intermediate goods quality overall increasing year by year,which in general trade enterprises engaged in processing trade and the difference is not much,but imports from developed countries are significantly higher than the quality of intermediate goods imports from developing countries,in the high technology industry is obvious higher than the low tech industry.From the different types of ownership of the enterprises,the import of intermediate goods of high quality foreign enterprises,state-owned enterprise,private enterprise is lowest;(2)on the whole,the quality of imported intermediate goods increase has significant effects on TFP,which results in consideration of the endogeneity problem is still robust;(3)comparison of imports of intermediate goods quality based on the estimated coefficient grouping regression results,we found that the positive effect of enterprises engaged in processing trade,foreign enterprises and imports from developing countries and enterprises in high technology industry imports of intermediate goods quality will be stronger on TFP,the results are also by the robust test.Finally,according to the empirical results,this paper puts forward some policy suggestions.
