Chang Huang(1527-1608),literary name Ben Qing,alias Dou Jin,as one of the most important Neo-Confucianists in Nanchang area during the late of Ming dynasty,the Tu-Shu-Bian he has written is the voluminous work of Atlas study in Ming dynasty,it has the compiling system and consistent image sequence,the communication produced by him and the images brought to China by Jesuit Matteo Ricci even triggered the collision between east and west image systems.At present,the most studies on Chang Huang are due to the widespread impact of Matteo Ricci,and from the perspective of the studies on Chang Huang,the research of the publication,prohibition and destruction of the Tu-Shu-Bian laid the foundation of text and image standard.the Tu-Shu-Bian is a consistent book contains theory and practice,it follows the political and institutional encyclopedia books' care for the national politics and the thinking of “use” of the encyclopedia books of daily use,it shows a wonderful image reading book with practical significance for the readers.With more benefits from the meaning extension of Confucian scholars' “Tai Chi”[An image describe the universe in Chinese tradition],“Hetu”[An image can calculate everthing in Chinese tradition] and “Luoshu”[Another image can calculate everthing in Chinese tradition] in the Song dynasty,the image world in Ming dynasty possess the pursuit of the systematism of Neo-Confucianism,administer affairs and systematism are the main characteristics of the Tu-Shu-Bian.The translation happened to the images that brought by the missionaries in the middle and late Ming dynasty when they participated in the process of image system established by the Confucian scholars in the Song dynasty,Zhang Huang's choice and change of Matteo Ricci's text and image,are based on a kind of requirement for “making the differences to be the same”,in order to preserve the integrity of the image sequence in the collective books,he modified the images which are not in line with the original meaning of “Hetu”,“Luoshu”,to make the context consistency,sometimes he would contradict the unreasonable content elsewhere,as one of the first batch of Confucian scholars who in touch with western studies,Chang Huang's attitude towards western studies has ameaning of compromise.Similarly in the 16 th century,we could also find the process of translation were happened in Europe synchronously,since the 13 th century,the model of the universe did not seem to have a definite standard,while it has been in the process of historical change,in the era of Matteo Ricci,this model has experienced the complex changes,in the superposition of ninth heaven,tenth heaven and eleventh heaven,it is the image representation of the deepening of Catholic internal anxiety,caused the scholars in the Ming dynasty do not have a certain understanding of the universe at the same time.Rational model of the universe undoubtedly changes the ideal picture of the east and west in a subtle way,the east and west are committed to a certain career,which is the impendency of the pursuit of practical knowledge and the passion and trust for the image expression,thus it made the communication about image between Chang Huang and Matteo Ricci so wonderful.The communication between Chang Huang and Matteo Ricci provided a historical narrative of Chinese cultural tradition about the celestial body image,from the perspective of the image express the celestial body we could find the interesting collision of Chinese visual culture tradition and the western image,in the east and west individual traditional image sequence,we could explore the complexity of the communication of dissemination of west learning.
