The Chinese ancient books,as the witness and the carrier of thousands' years of Chinese culture,have experienced many hardships.They were already badly broken today and need repairing works.As for the restoration of ancient books,the principles are the guidance of repairing work and are indispensable in the repairing work.The principle "repair the book until it looks as old as before" was put forward by many scholars and experts before,but what exactly is the meaning of it? This principle does not have a clear interpretation and still need to be defined.The restorers need a more specific and complete repairing principle to guide their work.So,based on the reference of DU Wei-sheng's opinions on the eight principles of repairing ancient books,combined with the relevant laws and regulations,and a brief history of ancient books' repairing,I'm going to discuss the premise and the six repairing principles,analyze the detailed rules contained in each repairing steps,and make a comparison on the Chinese and western ancient books repairing work.
