Research On The Image Of Local Government In The Report Of The Demolition Of The Beijing News

Without housing commercialization, housing needs which guarantee the basic dignity of Chinese urban residents cannot be achieved. Without demolition, urbanization in Chinese society is also out of the question. However, like any other reforms in China, the reform of housing system is just like opening a magic bottle-on one hand, there comes enormous vitality and creativity, and on the other hand, it leads to more problems than solutions. From Weng Biao and Zhu Zhengliang in 2003 to Tang Fuzhen of Chengdu and Xi Xinzhu of Beijing in 2009. in the face of violent demolition yet no way for help, people burn themselves or revolt to those who implement a violent demolition. Local government, as the licenser, dispute arbiter and interest benefiter of urban demolition, has been pushed to the vortex of social opinions, and has experienced a declining image and credit because of the demolition. According to general western communication studies, although media cannot decide "How people think", it can successfully affect "What people think". Therefore, the study of local government's image in reports relating to demolition is necessary and meaningful.Taking demolition reports relating to the image of local government in Beijing News from the year 2007 to 2015 as an example, this thesis, by means of content analysis, comparative analysis, discourse analysis and other research methods and using the Field theory of Bourdieu as main theoretical basis, analyzes 427 demolition reports in the Beijing News from content and discourse and explores the image of local government in them. First, with the alternation of governing body of the Beijing News in 2011 as the dividing line, this thesis compares demolition reports in the Beijing News as two parts and analyzes their similarities and differences in representing the image of local government. Then, based on the Field Theory and Capital Theory, it analyzes main factors determining the positive and negative images of local government in the demolition reports. Finally, by summarizing the research conclusion of the reports, this thesis reflects existing problems of both media and local government in shaping the media image of local government and put forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.With the alteration of governing body of Beijing News in 2011 as the dividing line, this thesis selects demolition reports relating to local government published in Beijing News from the year 2007 to 2015 as study object, and concludes that the image of local government in such reports is so complex that presents an interleaving of both positive and negative factors after a series of content analysis and deduction. To be specific, things determining the positive part are mainly the management schema, reporting subjects and realistic choice of media, and those determining thenegative part are mainly interest differentiation among governments, impetus of mercerization and the inclination of media.At last, this thesis reflects on the media image of local government in demolition reports relatively from the aspect of local government and media, and puts forward two major existing issues:semiautonomous journalistic field and opportunistic demolition subjects. With much to be improved, local government and media are expected to cooperate for the benefit of establishing the good image of local government and the autonomy of journalistic field.
