The middle of the last century, dramaturgy, proposed by Erving Goffman, who is the third generation representative of symbolic interactionism, has had widespread attention. Though scholars have been varied in its evaluation, dramaturgy created a brave new prospective of research in social interaction and the presentation of self in everyday life.Nowadays, as the development of social media, both content and mode of transmission have changed a lot as well. So dramaturgy cannot be suitable for media communication environment completely. One of the obvious proof is the common of certain communication phenomenon, that make presentation used to be on backstage public on the front region.Based on the theory of dramaturgy, the paper explores the characteristics and causes of this mass communication phenomena, and reveals the essence of the backstage performance from three aspects:the performer, the backstage and the impression management. At the same time, the development of mass media also led to the destructive power of "backstage difficulties" strengthened, although it is very similar to the backstage performance, but they are a world of difference in essence.Based on the nature of phenomenon of backstage performance, it can be speculated that the mass communication will continue to develop towards the trend of perceptual and unity.
