With the development of network and computer technology and the popularization of distance education, the online assignment correcting system has become an important part of the innovation of the education and teaching system. The online assignment correcting system can not only improve the efficiency of assignment correction but also help teachers to get feedbacks from assignments more effectively.Considering the irreplaceable advantages of the traditional way of doing assignments and the disadvantages of going fully paperless, this paper proposes an online assignment correcting system which still based on paper work. It combines the traditional way of doing assignments with online correcting method. The main idea is to scan the particularly designed assignment after processing them with digital image processing technology. In this way, teachers can use mobile termination to correct assignments easily.This paper mainly focuses on the design of the particular assignment paper and the image processing module of the online assignment correcting system. The foundation of the whole project is the design of the particular assignment paper which should include information about dates and students. For image processing module, VS2010 is applied as software platform and VC++ is used as programming language. With the help of this module, the process of image read and cropping can be easily done, as well as the segmentation and recognition of date and title images and student information extraction from QR code. In consideration of data storage, bitmaps of the assignment papers will be named according to specific dates, title and QR information.The results of sample tests metioned at the end of this paper prove the online assignment correcting system proposed in this paper is feasible and effective in practice.
