Due to the ups and downs of plots and a certain degree of fictionality,novels are always the best-loved literary genre among students.Chinese teaching should make full use of this advantage to enhance the teaching effect.Undertaking the important duty of transmitting the multiculture,foreign novels have always been considered as an indispensable part of foreign literature.Whereas,foreign novels teaching have not been attached sufficient emphasis and various problems are still existed in it.Based on the previous but insufficient studies on foreign novels teaching,this thesis tries to explore its current teaching situation and countermeasures of Chinese PEP Textbooks in Middle School.The whole thesis are composed of the following four parts.The first part mainly illustrates the origin,significance and value of the study on foreign novels teaching of Chinese Textbooks in Middle School.Then it would briefly straighten out and summarize the present studies,and thereafter come up with the main research methods adopted in this thesis.The second part analyzes the selection and arrangement of foreign novels in the case of Chinese PEP Textbooks of middle school.With the selection of teachers and students from 7 to 8 middle schools as the respondents,the third part applies both interview method and questiomaire approach,aiming to do a follow-up survey to the teaching situation of foreign novels in Chinese PEP Textbooks of middle school.Most teachers can realize the importance of foreign novel teaching and that teaching effect is deficient.Subjected to the examination-oriented education,environmental differences and other influences,however,There are still some problems like obsolete ideas,single interpretation mode of the text,and students lacking enough reading.The fourth part is devoted to put forward the improvement strategies of foreign novels teaching in Chinese PEP Textbooks of middle school.From the aspects of classroom teaching and outside extension,this part would detailedly discuss how toarouse students' reading interests of foreign novels,The fourth part is devoted to put forward the improvement strategies of foreign novels teaching in Chinese PEP Textbooks of middle school.From the aspects of classroom teaching and outside extension,and with the discussion of the use of "close to the characters teach" teaching methods,visual teaching methods,comparative reading and other teaching methods”,this part would put forward specific teaching suggestions and measures about how to improve students' interest in Foreign Novels,how to improve teachers' literary attainment,how to increase the popularity of foreign cultural history background and how to highlight the multicultural connotations and the unique implications of foreign novels.
