The teaching of geography is necessary for the development of active and responsible citizens,and it is also an important part of high school teaching.However,with the deepening of the new curriculum reform,the traditional geography teaching methods can not meet the needs of today's education and there must be constantly improvement and innovation on the basis of that.It not only refers to the update of teaching idea and teaching goal,but also refers to the update of the teaching contents,teaching methods and teaching evaluation and so on.All of that are in order to adapt to the modern geography knowledge,improve students' learning ability,and cultivate students' emotion.Therefore,it is urgent for schools and teachers to find more effective teaching methods to promote students' Geography learning.As a tool of knowledge representation,the concept map can be expressed in the form of schema,and by using this method,the relationship between new and old knowledge can be established.It is convenient for students to understand,remember and use knowledge in real life.The powerful function of concept map is becoming more and more popular in the teaching field.And it becomes the hot topic in the educational circles of our country.This topic is on the basis of the full understanding of domestic and foreign research,in view of the curriculum reform of present stage and characteristics of geography's teaching and learning,the writer applied concept map in geography teaching,and discussed how to help teachers to carry out teaching and students'effective learning and also provides the realistic basis for the teachers to use the concept map teaching and the students to apply the concept map learning.In this paper,the background,current situation,purpose,significance and method of concept map are elaborated,and define the concept of the concept map and induce the corresponding theoretical basis of concept map.By analyzing the present situation about the application of concept map in senior high school geography teachers,teaching and the geography's learning of students,select two classes of grade one in senior high school as the experimental class and the control class.For comparison,using the teaching method of concept map in experimental class and using the normal teaching method in control.The experimental results show that concept map can improve teaching quality,improve students' learning methods and improve students' performance.
