The new curriculum standard advocates developing the necessary geographical accomplishment of future citizens, emphasising the exploration of the geographical problems. It also advocates autonomous learning, cooperative learning and inquiry learning, launching some practical activities such as geographical observation, geographical investigation, geographical experiment, geographical survey and geographical monographic study. It provides adequate basis for the implementation of geographical experiment, which results in the unprecedented challenges and opportunities to geographical experiment study. Therefore, this research has important theoretical and practical value.This paper mainly studies the functions and types of the geographical experiment and verifies the functions of geographical experiment, which based on the theory of multiple intelligence theory, constructivism theory and geographical basic theory. This paper can be mainly divided into six parts.The first part, It mainly elaborates the background and the value of the study.The second part, the current situation of the geographical experiment research both at home and abroad and the theoretical basis of the reaearch. This paper rely on multiple intelligence theory, constructivism theory, geography theory etc.The third part, the classification of geographical experiment and the experimental cases. According to the main characteristics of the geographical course content, the specific target of the experiment and the difference of the experiment models, we classified the geographical experiment and cited the experimental cases and geographical experiment teaching strategy in every kind of geography experimental.Thefourth part, the study on the effect of teaching geographical experiment. It discusses the effect of teaching geographical experiment on students` development and teaching goal.The fifth part, the empirical study of geographical experiment. The author tested and verified the function of geographical experiment through education experiment.The sixth part, conclusion. It summarizes the major point of this article .Through the studies in this paper, it turns out that conducting geographical experimental effectively can promote the development of students' learning ability and comprehensive practical ability, achieve the teaching goal in a better way and advance the teaching effect. The experimental cases in the chapter of experimental types enriched the geographical experiment resources. We hope that this paper will supply basis for teachers and students on implementing geographic experiment.
