The principle concept of learning geography should be benefit for the life and self development is emphasized in "New Standard of Geological Course". Along with the development of the theory of construction psychology and social cognition, life situation and student experience have attracted the attention of numerous educational researchers. Insinuation learning and teaching were widely instigated at home and abroad. The practice learning models including anchored learning, cognitive apprenticeship learning, and service learning have been conducted in international academic circles. In our country, Li’s situation teaching has made remarkable achievement in Chinese teaching. Similar teaching methods have been applied to other disciplines. In literature, the processes of situational teaching in the previous theory and application are not clear enough. The usage of situational teaching has some difference from the situation teaching. The authors believes that situational teaching is a prefer choice to the situation teaching. This work investigated the current advance of situational teaching of middle school geography, analyzed the problems, obtained research conclusions, and provided some suggested comments.In this paper, a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods were used to take investigation and research on the implementation of situational teaching in junior middle school geography teaching. First of all, the basic theory of the situational teaching was sorted out by literature review. The concept and characteristics of situational teaching were clarified in details by comparing the domestic and foreign investigations. Secondly, questionnaire study of middle school geography teaching was conducted to understand the general situations. The results of the collected questionnaire showed that:(1)Most students had an insight that there was a close connection between geography and life situation, but the initiative of linking life environment and geographical learning was obviously insufficient.(2)Teachers had the following problems in the practice of situational Teaching: ①life situation was relatively little mentioned;② the situation was too much dependent on the multimedia; ③the situation consent was not appropriate; ④the situation process was not coherent and complete.(3)The guidance and encouragement from teachers to student was insufficient, which induced seldom students taken activated observation and reflection on the geographical phenomena in their life。The authors summarized the main reasons for the present problems:①In objective aspects, the large mount of students within a class and education academic pressure made the evaluation mechanism of examination ignore the processes of the situational teaching.②The traditional teaching including teaching materials, teacher and classroom restricted the thinking of both teacher and student.③ The misunderstanding of situational teaching is also an important reason.④ The limited communication between teacher and student resulted in divergence which inhabited the application of the situational teaching.Finally, this paper put forward some useful suggestions:(1)Teacher should change their thinking methods, improve the traditional teaching ways, learn the relevant theories of situational teaching, pay more attention to the daily life of situations, and enhance communication to the students.(2) Students should change the learning concept and methods of geography, consciously establish a link between geography and life(3)School should implement comprehensive practical curriculum, make full use of local geographical resources, and improve the learning evaluation mechanism.The difference between situational teaching and situation teaching was clarified. This work highlighted the importance of the process of the situational teaching. The current states of middle school geography teaching was understood, some problems and corresponded suggestions were put forward in this paper. These comments will provide guidance improve the effect of situational teaching. There are still some problems in the research due to my theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
