After-class exercises plays an important role in mother tongue textbook.It conveys the teaching concept of the editor and also affects schools' teaching and learning.However,no matter in arrangement or actual teaching application,after-class exercise is always in a subordinate position,which leads to the ignorance of its importance.Therefore,after-class exercise could neither reflect its value,nor give full play to its function.With the constant development of society,curriculum reform happened many times.The role of after-class exercise is becoming increasingly important.Experts ans scholars also expect not only improving the students' language accomplishment and comprehensive ability,but also cultivating new talents of the needs of times.However,owing to the long-term immersion of local culture,the effect of the reform is not very satisfying.This paper compares the PEP edition of Chinese textbooks for high schools with American Literature,in order to learn from the advanced education concept and make our mother tongue education more impeccable.First of all,this paper gives a brief introduction of Chinese textbooks for high school published by People's Education,and also a review for after-class exercises,and then takes the same structure to introduces American language and its after-class exercises,and then through the comprehensive comparison between after-class exercises in different mother tongue textbooks,respectively from the hierarchical sequence reflects the degree of orientation,the value of the selected text mining,position of prominence on the reader,and on the cultivation of thinking ability on variance analysis,the various of differences reflect in the different education thought,training objective and their own evaluation system,it traced back to different economic and political system between the two countries.Although different cultures and national conditions between the two countries,the demand for talent is similar for the word under the trend of global integration,also has the common for the cultivation of the talent by mother tongue textbooks.the United States as a strong education power,its advanced teaching idea can be used for the absorption.At the end of the paper gives some specific suggestions.Firstly,it should enrich the evaluation way of college entrance examination to improve evaluation system.Secondly,it's better to improve the practice design and make full play to the comprehensive function of after-class exercise.Thirdly,considering from the practical application of after-class exercises,teachers should attach importance to and learn to make full use of after-class exercises.
