Mathematics teaching, the concept, formula, theorem is presented by mathematical symbols, and most of the algebraic sign. So, to learn algebra symbols in mathematical learning is particularly important. Algebraic sign is not only the constituent elements of mathematics knowledge, more powerful tool for students mathematics study further.The algebraic sign of high school as the basis of mathematical knowledge, is the foundation of learning high school math, high school students after the follow-up study of scientific tools. University level math has higher requirements on algebraic symbols, so high school needs to lay a solid foundation. But, after my preliminary observation and communication with high school math teacher found that after the present stage the algebraic sign of high school students learning ability to master is not ideal, this ability is divided into two aspects of algebraic symbols understanding and said. Algebraic symbols, on the one hand, students can’t fully understand the significance of algebraic symbols for many students memory, understanding is not clear. On the other hand, even if the students understand the meaning of the algebraic sign, also can’t to say well and application. So high school algebra symbolic understanding and said the study is of great significance, both to enrich the study of the theory of the algebraic sign system, can also through the investigation and analysis of the status of high school algebra symbolic learning ability, puts forward some proposals to the high school mathematics teaching and reference.First of all, this paper carried out a large number of high school algebra symbolic understanding and said the theory research. On the basis of extensive literature data, introduces the development history of algebraic symbols, the paper analyzes the causes of learning disabilities high school algebra symbols, the characteristics of high school algebra symbolic learning, discusses the symbols, mathematical symbols, the algebraic definition and the classification of algebraic symbols, also introduced the high school algebra symbolic understanding process of three stages: symbol recognition, semantic analysis, structure, process of high school algebra symbolic representation of three stages: preparation, writing clear meanings, symbols, for later research laid a solid theoretical basis.Then, in this paper, the high school algebra symbolic understanding and said has carried out detailed empirical research. This article, based on the algebraic sign of higher content of the questionnaire, the high school stage as test dimension of algebraic symbols understanding and representation, respectively for senior students, high school science and liberal arts students are tested, by analyzing the data, on each dimension compared with high school students, students and the school of arts living, the difference between boys and girls and analyze reasons, find out the high school students in each stage in understanding and said learning difficulties. From the perspective of teachers and students point of view, gives advices on the teaching of high school algebra symbols and learning strategies.
