Research On The Impact Of New Media On The Modernization Of The Concept Of Migrant Workers

At present,the world is undergoing a period of the highly developed Internet and China has come to enter into the information era in which the new media,with its incomparable advantages compared with the traditional media,has become the major channel for people to have access to information.‘New media',‘migrant workers' and ‘modernization' have emerged as the main issues of common concern and numerous studies have been conducted among the circle of sociological scholars.However,there haven't been too many achievements in the researches on the modernization of migrant workers' group concept from the point of journalism and communication.On the premise that it is commonly acknowledged in academia that mass communication's media have an irreplaceable role on the modernization of humans;this paper studies the influence of the media behavior on the modernization of migrant workers' concepts on the basis of the using of the new media.This study takes three theories including media communication effect theory in mass-communication,modernization theory in sociology and the fundamental theories of modernization in anthropology and psychology as its theoretical foundations and adopts questionnaire and in-depth interviews so to investigate the using of new media of migrant workers in Hada village in Harbin.In addition,SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Sciences)software is employed to conduct a cross-analysis taking concrete data to explore the influence of media exposure on migrant workers in terms of the modernization of their group concept.Through this study,firstly,it is found that migrant workers' education influences the modernization of their concept by taking an effect on their media behavior including motivations of using media and preferences for content.Secondly,it is noted that the media exposure of migrant workers is not the only factor and has limited effect even though it does have certain influence on the modernization of their concept.At last,new media,as one channel of the modern media,is one of the important features presenting the degree of how individuals modernize.However,in this process,it is more than modern ideas,concepts and knowledge that the modern media transmit,which does not necessarily mean that the using of new media takes a positive effect on the modernization of migrant workers' group concept.
