The Study Of Prosocial Behavior Of Different Narcissistic Individuals Under The Condition Of Money Initiation

Since middle and later periods of the 20th century,narcissistic personality is studied by more and more people.Two forms of the narcissistic structure can be divided into overt narcissism and covert narcissism,both of which have characteristics of exaggerated self,thirst of power,but overt narcissists are over-confidence,have high self-esteem,covert narcissists are lack of confidence,sensitive and have negative attitude.Narcissists’ pro-social behavior are researched a lot at home and abroad,Compared with covert narcissistic individuals,overt narcissistic individuals have more prosocial performance.And it is not only influenced by individual differences,but also by social situation,which cannot be ignored.Situation of Money Priming is researched in recent years,and money,a symbol of power and superiority,is of special significance for narcissists,and directly affects the pro-social behavior of individual.So considering individual differences and social situation,this study is to explore the variation of pro-social behavior for overt narcissists and covert narcissists in the situation of money priming.In addition,previous studies have demonstrated that narcissistic individuals change their behavior is mainly in order to maintain and adjust inner self-esteem.Overt narcissists have high but inherently unstable self-esteem,while covert narcissists have the feature of low self-esteem,so whether the self-esteem is the reason that the pro-social behavior of narcissists changes when priming money stimulate?Specifically,this study is divided into three experiments:Experiment 1:different types of narcissists differences on pro-social behavior.160 undergraduates,who are randomly selected from shaanxi normal university,fill in the narcissism personality questionnaire and independently finish experiment of choosing individual and collective vocabulary in the laboratory.Experiment 2:under the condition of money priming,different types of narcissists differences on pro-social behavior.300 undergraduates,who are randomly selected from shaanxi normal university,fill in the narcissistic personality questionnaire,and independently finish experiment same as experiment 1 combined with the paradigm of money priming.Experiment 3:study on the internal mechanism,which cause pro-social behavior of different narcissistic individuals change in money priming situation.298 undergraduates,who are randomly selected from shaanxi normal university,fill in the narcissistic personality questionnaire,and independently finish task of choosing vocabulary,finally complete the self-esteem scale.Conclusions:(1)Overt narcissists show more pro-social behavior than covert narcissists(2)Relative to the neutral condition,under the situation of money priming,pro-social behavior of overt narcissists decreased,while pro-social behavior of covert narcissists increased.(3)Self-esteem is the internal mechanism,which is the reason why overt and covert narcissists’ pro-social behaviors changes,and is partial intermediary variable.
