Research On The Influence Mechanism Of Secure Attachment On Deceptive Behavior

Honesty is the traditional virtue of Chinese nation,but there are so many deceptions in current society,such as food and drug safety issues,academic misconduct,fraud phenomenon and so on.Although deception can bring individuals with shortterm benefits,from a longterm perspective,it not only destroys interpersonal trust,commitment and relationship satisfaction,but also threatens the moral self image and team interests.Thus,it is of so great importance to explore the influencing factors of deception.One likely reason for people’s willingness to deceive others is that they are insecure and anxious about being criticized or rejected.Attachment is the most important emotional intimacy band through the whole life of an individual.Attachment security,which allows a person to forgo various kinds of defenses and be more open and honest with others,has numerous beneficial effects on emotional stability and social behavior.However,previous researches only focused on the relationship between dispositional attachment and deception.Therefore,the present studies extend this line of correlational research and connect it to recent research on security priming,aiming to examine the impact of attachment security priming on deception,and to further extend the Broaden and Build Cycle of attachment security,so as to explore the effective ways to hinder individual deception.The research adopted two studies to examine the impact of the momentary sense of attachment security on the deception.Study 1 mainly examine the impact of supraliminally attachment security priming on the deception.After completing the Experiences in Close Relationships scales(ECR),93 college students were randomly assigned into three priming groups,respectively for attachment security,positive emotion and control group.Then all of them finished visualperception task.The results showed that compared with the positive emotion and control group,the attachment security priming group had less deception behavior and inclination.The results also found dispositional attachment anxiety moderate the attachment security priming and deception.Study 2 adopted a subliminal priming procedure to examine the impact of attachment security on deception behavior.103 college students completed the ECR,Moral Identity Questionnaire and WHOTO Scale.Then they were randomly assigned into three priming groups,respectively for attachment name,acquaintance and stranger group.After the wordrelation task,all the participants completed the IAT which measured the moral self.Finally,all the participants finished numbersearch task.The results showed that compared with the acquaintance and stranger group,the attachment name priming group had less deception behavior,and there was moderating role of dispositional attachment anxiety.The results also found moral self partially mediated the relationship between attachment security priming and deception.All of these results confirmed that attachment security priming has a nagetive effect on deception,attachment anxiety served as the moderating role,and moral self served as the mediating role.
