A Comparative Study Of The Urban Form Of Chang'an City In The Sui And Tang Dynasties And The Roman City In The Imperial Age | | Posted on:2018-01-01 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:K M Wang | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2355330542479755 | Subject:Historical geography | | Abstract/Summary: | | | Chang’an and Rome are the great cities of human history,their urban form are on the basis of inheriting tradition eventually formed after centuries of construction,meanwhile,have profound influence on later generations.In the academic history,some scholars have conducted comparative research on Han Chang’ an and Rome,but lack of the comparative study on Sui-Tang Chang’an and Empire Rome,it’s the reason for this study.This paper adopts the method of comparative study,and based on abundant historical data and previous studies with the history of Sui-Tang Chang’an and Empire Rome.According to the theoretical method of urban geography and historical urban geography,the urban form is divided into two parts:internal form and external form,and several elements are selected from each part for restoration and comparative study.The urban forms of the two cities are analyzed in politics,economic and cultural aspects,and finally explores the similarities and differences between the six aspects of the city of Sui-Tang Chang’ an and Empire Rome,and get the enlightenment to today’s society.This paper is divided into two parts:introduction and text.The introduction explains the significance of the topic;then introduces the academic research status of Sui-tang Chang’ an and the Empire Rome at home and abroad,and pointed out that the comparative research is relatively scarce;finally discusses the research methods.The text is divided into four chapters.The first chapter introduces the Sui and Tang Dynasties imperial city of Chang’an and the emperor of Rome construction of Rome city.This chapter consists of three forms,the first form in time as the main line,enumerates the emperors of the Tang Dynasty of Chang’ an city construction;second form respectively according to the time pulse lists empire period in Rome city construction activities;the third form of contents is the construction of public facilities in Rome in the early Imperial.The second chapter selects seven factors of comparative study,including streets,political space,residential space,commercial places,places of religious worship,leisure and entertainment,the water conservancy system.The third chapter selects seven factors of comparative study,including walls,tombs,gardens of other industries,external traffic.The fourth chapter summarizes the above contents,analysis of the six different aspects of the characteristics of the two city,including construction process,layout of the city,the political space,public facilities,residential,religious belief,and get three points from this research,we should pay more attention to the construction of public facilities,inherit the traditional culture critically,and respect for the diversity of civilization. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Sui and Tang dynasties, Chang’ an, Rome, urban morphology, comparative study | | Related items |
