Since the 1980 s,a lot of books and dictionaries about the Chinese neologisms have been compiled and published with their emergence. As the language develops,Chinese neologisms continue to be produced and meanwhile some of them die out.The annual neologisms dictionary conserves the new words appearing in one year completely, which could represent the linguistic phenomena and the social life of the year. This thesis, based on The 2013 Chinese Neologisms published by The Commercial Press in 2014,aims at the collection, interpretation and illustration of the neologisms, using descriptive, analytical, contrastive and statistical methods,in order to give suggestions for the improvement of the compilation of neologisms dictionary in future. The introduction explains the objective of this research, the definition of neologisms, the relevant researches of the scholars, and the methods of this research. The first chapter briefly introduces the profile of The 2013 Chinese Neologisms, including the background of the publication and the general content. The second chapter discusses the collection of The 2013 Chinese Neologisms in temporal perspective, including the analyses of the neologisms lagging behind, and of the uncollected ones discovered by contrast with Language Situation in China:2014 and Chinese Neologism Series(2011-2013).The third chapter discusses the collection of The 2013 Chinese Neologisms based on semantic transparency. The semantic transparency is preliminarily proposed as a standard of collection of a neologisms dictionary. This part analyzes the semantic transparency of the neologisms from the perspectives of morpheme and structure, and reviews the collection of The 2013 Chinese Neologisms. The fourth chapter discusses the part-of-speech tagging and analyzes the interpretation on the aspects of the coherence of the words' definition and the measurement of semantic transparency. The fifth chapter discusses the achievement and the deficiency of the examples. The usage of the examples works in term of credible origins, effective function and reasonable arrangement.A few of them, however, are not corresponding with the words or definition, and their content is not appropriate.Sometimes, for some items, only one example is given, which is not sufficient.
