A Comparative Study Of Female Images In Chen Hongjun's And Xi Duochuan's Paintings

Chen Hongshou is a famous painter who lived in the late Ming dynasty,the figure painting of his have been praised most.The technique of profiling the beautiful women of traditional China had influenced native and abroad,especially on Japan.Over 100 years later than the Ming dynasty,Kitagawa Utamaro,a great Japanese painter,became a master of Ukiyo-e.We could see the imitation of traditional Chinese lady painting and western painting,and influence of traditional culture of Japan in his calligraphy of painting.These two painters together,shows a continuous relationship,and both broke the limitation of painting skills of their own age,as trailblazers,gave an innovation of profiling the beautiful women.This paper will start from their life story,and then review the reforming of their painting style,make a comparison of their technique,to show the differences of creation spirit of them when they devoted into the same subject matter.In the meanwhile,by comparing their works with both male perspective in their era,and modern way of admiring women,to renew how we appreciate the woman figure created by them.
