This dissertation analyses two types of representative works from ancient Han culture. The first one is 'Flowers and Birds' Screens from GaoChang Ancient Tomb, particularly 'Flowers and Birds Fresco Six Folded screens' from Astana Tomb No.217 and 'Flowers and Birds Three folded screens' of Karakhoja Tomb No.50.These two screen works applied the same themes, forms and techniques in the glorious Tang and late Tang dynasty respectively. The other one is paintings depicting 'scenes beyond the Great Wall',particularly 'Red Maple and Deer' and 'Deers in Autumn Woods'.The former type proves that Han culture has profound influences on the western regions. The works carry early Chinese'Flowers and Birds Painting' forms which provide enormous research materials for ongoing studies. The second type of works is important because it contains multiple early painting techniques depicting new themes, which are unique in the way of representation comparing to previous art works.Due to the controversies in the history, author, form and other aspects there is no defined conclusion upon the works. The research in this dissertation is based mainly on Mr.Li Lincan's methodology.Through analyzing these two types of works in their techniques, forms, cultural environment and historical background, furthermore comparing to other related works, this dissertation attempts to summarize the method of creating contemporary 'Flowers and Birds Paintings' in 'utilizing traditions on new themes','blending multiple painting techniques' 'exploring new knowledge from new materials' and etc.,the author hope to produce some significance in contemporary 'Flower and Birds Painting' creation.
