The picture-story book of our country and Mango are one kind of art catalog with the narrative by picture as the expressive method,but now they have developed into totally different situation.The former unloaded the glorious achievement in gold times of the 80 th and faded out with the market turning to collective hobby from public reading material;while the latter has been out of the country with the basis of the booming development of the country,influencing the whole world,and the business profit from related products has also become the industry pillar,especially that it takes up much percentage among the youth entertainment in our country.On thinking that the picture-story book had the similar status half a century ago,people can't help asking that what the reason is that causes the totally different destinies for the two.In this thesis,the author tries to answer the question through discussing the difference between the two on the skill of narrating the story by pictures.Firstly,the author sorts out the form of the picture-story book,especially the development situation of picture-story book after the founding of new China,and affirms its popularization of scientific and cultural knowledge,among which the author stresses the influence of objective conditions such as policy,social and living conditions behind two boom periods on its glory.With the continuing development of the times and the trends,the public can choose much more various reading materials,and the role of the picture-story book has been replaced by the newly emerging books with Mango as the mainstream.The sales market of the picture-story book has entered to freezing point,until now the development of the picture-story book market is mainly aiming at the collection as the main method,the releasing of the second edition of the picture-story book and the of the online picture-story book and online stage propaganda as a supplement.After that,the author gives a detailed description on the differences of the picture-story books and Mango on their skills of narrating through pictures.The results show that the two all use the words and the pictures to tell the story,but the fixed rectangular frame in picture-story book and the rich fractional story-telling in Mango have totally different expressive effects;the framing in picture-story books are mostly for medium shot,and on expressive method they tend to “well-rounded”,which is different from the expressive method of multiple view switch in Mango;meanwhile the narrative method in picture-story book tends to telling stories through words as the main method with the picture as supplement,and in Mango the words are mostly the conversation between the characters,rather than the simple description on the picture,and with the use of Onomatopoeia and mimetic words,combined with the text bubbles which aim at promoting the picture,the picture and the words are all inseparable,the goal is to express the dynamic cinematic effect with the immovable pictures.In view of releasing,Mango is guided by the market,and the mechanism of survival of the fittest makes the cartoonist equip with excellent ability in drawing and strong skill in arranging the story.It can be seen that the the role of literal narratives is more important than the picture in the picture-story books,while the situation is totally different for Mango.This is the biggest difference for the two on narrating through pictures.Finally the author gives a conclusion on the similarity and difference of the picture-story book and Mango,but it's hard to conclude which one is better,since the two have made extraordinary achievement on their own lands.It's just that compared with Mango which constantly make value for the public,the current situation of the Chinese picture-story book has turned to the collections and hard to breakthrough,and the readers are also less in number than the former.But it can't ignore the glorious achievements the Chinese picture-story books made in history and its advantages.While the author thinks that the biggest differences between the two is that although the two are all the narrative reading materials and are facing the public,one party pays more attention to the relatively serious education,one party turns to integrate education in the humorous atmosphere,while the public tend to choose funnier reading materials.Meanwhile the elements of creator “people” has also played a significant role in the development of the two.That's also the inner reason for the different development of the two.The author strives to explore the inner reason on the differences of the two on narrating through pictures,and makes foundation for the redevelopment for the picture-story book in the new times.
