Anhui Foreign Trade Research During The Republic Of China (1912-1937)

After the Opium War,China was forced to pull the world market.Due to the lack of trade port and the natural economy boycotts,foreign trade development is slow.In 1877,Wuhu opened,Anhui has a direct treaty port,the rapid development of foreign trade.Republic of China,Anhui foreign trade did not extend the trend of rapid development as late Qing Dynasty,but showed a volatile growth.Commodity structure exported is agricultural products,imported is industrial products.Geographically dominated by domestic trade,the main target is Shanghai as the core of the central region,international trade to America,Japan,Britain and Hong Kong.There have also been some new changes in the development of foreign trade,changes in the structure of commodities,the increase of commercialization of agricultural products and foreign trade directly,changes in the direct trade countries,the decline in the status of national trade,Imports of local goods increased gradually more than foreign imports.During the Republic of China,Anhui was a typical agricultural area,and the development of social and economic industries was relatively backward.Although the development of foreign trade makes Anhui become imperialism source of raw materials and commodity exports market,Anhui's mining,agriculture and industry and other industries were plundered and squeezed.But also for Anhui has brought technology,advanced machine,etc.,to promote the slow development of social economy.The slow development of social economy has also provided important support for foreign trade,export commodity production,commercial network gradually improved,import commodity consumption market,traffic development and so on for the development of foreign trade provides the basic elements.However,it is undeniable that Anhui's backward socio-economic conditions limit the further development of Anhui's foreign trade.During the Republic of China,although the foreign trade in Anhui showed a general trend,there were still problems,commodity structure,geographical distribution,government interference,imbalance in the main business and less treaty port.The experience and lessons was helpful to promote of Anhui modern Foreign trade development.
