Li Shan was a member of the "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou",also,a famous artist in Qing Dynasty.Even though he experienced three setbacks in his official career,he still achieved great artistic achievements.His theories of creation culture,painting techniques and painting appreciation have a great influence on later painting groups.The introduction part summarizes the research status of "Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought".Most domestic academics have put Li Shan into the group of "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou" to do researches,the case studies of Li Shan are mostly from perspectives like his learning experiences from masters,his painting techniques and artistic achievements.However,there are very few people that have studied his painting aesthetics thought.Choosing Li Shan as the study case,this paper has a detailed discussion on Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought and its contemporary values under the historical background of the era,aims to fill the case studies of Li Shan in "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou".First innovative point of this paper is to combine Li Shan's paintings marked with poems to clearly summarize Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought from these parts:creation culture,painting techniques and painting appreciation.While previous research dissertations mostly focus on the angles of philology and fine arts,they didn't give specific overview on his painting aesthetics thought from the perspective of aesthetics.Second innovation point of this paper is that it discusses Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought of his painting works in four aspects,which are poems,calligraphy,painting and seal cutting.But the previous academic dissertations discussed Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought mostly just by focusing on the artistic features of his works.Third innovation point of this paper is to explore the values of Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought in four aspects:the spirit of innovation,aesthetic pursuit,commercialization of art and social cultivation.The main content of this paper is made up of five chapters:The first chapter has complete clarity on the era background of Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought,which can be divided into "the background of Li Shan's life" and "his family trait and life story,as well as friendship" these two sections.The second chapter expounds origin source and the evolution of Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought.It is considered that the origin source of Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought are "benevolence" as the core of Confucian,Taoist thought the nature of the Tao and"empty" "static" of Buddhist thought.It's also considered that the evolution course of Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought can be divided into three periods to discuss.The early period is "natural and grand",which is painting in elaborate style.The mid-term is "broken pen and splash ink",which is painting in freehand brush work.The later period is "not to stick to usual formalities",which is learning from nature.The third chapter expounds the overview of Li Shan's painting theories of creation cultivation,painting technique and painting appreciation from his poems,calligraphy,painting,seal cutting and other aspects.The fourth chapter is the study of the characteristics of Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought.It is mainly in four aspects:The first one is a aesthetic pursuit of common.The second one is a people-oriented thought of humanistic pragmatism.The third one is an innovative spirit of learning from nature.The last one is an aesthetic tendency of expressing yourself.The fifth chapter explores the value of Li Shan's painting aesthetics from the levels of innovative spirit,aesthetic pursuit,commercialization of arts,social enlightenment significance and etc.Discussing Li Shan's painting aesthetics thought of enlightenment and influence on later generations.In the conclusion part,it is considered that as a member of the "Yangzhou eight eccentrics" in Qing Dynasty,Li Shan's works of art and painting aesthetics thought in essence is not a maverick "strange",referred to as "chic" may be more appropriate.
