Research On Chinese People's Line Of Sight Behavior In The Context Of Social Anxiety

Cultural psychological pathology found that ties between culture and psychological behavior.Culture not only affects normal psychological behavior,but also affects abnormal psychological behavior.Social anxiety is one of the abnormal psychological behaviors.The effects of culture on psychological behavior are implemented by culture scripts as a bridge.The cultural scripts refer to the behavior and its significance of the cultural environment.Previous research has found that the emphasis on individualism culture countries(such as the United States),social anxiety is afraid of being hurt scripts,the emphasis on collectivism culture countries(such as Japan),social anxiety is afraid of hurting others scripts.And previous studies have also found that social anxiety and the line of sight between have a close relationship,Social anxiety tend to show the line of sight escape behavior.But there are some deficiencies in previous studies.For example,in the study of the relationship between culture and social anxiety,the questionnaire is adopted.In the study of the relationship between social anxiety and line of sight behavior,there is no cultural factor.Based on this,this study takes Chinese as subjects to explore the behavior of the individual's line of sight behavior in the context of social anxiety and potential cultural mechanisms(culture scripts)by the experiment.Specific research questions are the following:(1)what is line of sight behavior to the different emotional faces for Chinese?(2)What are the cultural scripts of the behavioral responses in social anxiety situations for Chinese?According to the first question,we put forward the following three hypotheses.H1a: Culture script(fear of being hurt / fear of hurting others)is significantly negatively correlated with gaze time on face images.H2a: There was a significant difference in gaze time on face images.between fear of being hurt scripts score high group and low group.H3a: There was a significant difference in gaze time on face images.between fear of hurting others scripts score high group and low group.According to the second question,we put forward the following two hypotheses.H1b: Collectivistic cultural tendencies and fear of hurting others scripts are positively correlated.Individualistic cultural tendencies and fear of being hurt scripts are positively correlated.H2b: Culture script(fear of being hurt / fear of hurting others)plays a intermediary role between cultural tendency and gaze time on face images.This study examined the above hypotheses by the following experiments.Pre experiment: The purpose of the study is to explore the effectiveness of social anxiety situation.20 students at Shanghai Normal University were tested.Create a social anxiety situation.The situation is to make the dialogue between the subject and the authority through the video voice,and let the subject speak in front of the authority.The 5 point anxiety scale was used to measure the degree of anxiety in the subjects under the social anxiety situation.The result of pre experiment reflects: The creation of social anxiety situation can effectively cause social anxiety.Formal experiment: The purpose of the study is to explore of Chinese line of sight behavior in social anxiety situation.106 students at Shanghai Normal University were tested.The Self Construction Scale,Social Interaction Anxiety Scale and Taijin Kyofu Sho Questionnaire measured separately the culture tendency of the subjects,fear of being hurt scripts and fear of hurting others scripts.Then create a social anxiety situation.After bringing out anxiety of subjects,present different emotional face images.Measure the line of sight behavior of Subjects by the eyelink1000 plus.For the two problems,the following results are obtained.First of all,for the first question,the results reflect in the context of social anxiety,collectivism tendency of people,with the scores of culture scripts(fear of being hurt / hurting others)increase,emotional stimuli(especially threatening stimuli)will exhibit gaze behavior more and more.In the context of social anxiety,Individualism tendency of people,with the scores of culture scripts(fear of being hurt / hurting others)increase,emotional stimuli(especially threatening stimuli)will exhibit line of sight avoidance behavior more and more.Then,for the second question,the results reflect in the context of social anxiety,collectivism tendency of people main perform fear of being hurt.Fear of being hurt scripts plays a completely mediating role in collectivism cultural tendency group and neutral emotional stimuli.We understand that the relationship between culture,social anxiety's culture scripts and line of sight behavior by this study.In the future,we can understand the behavior of the visitors and interact with them properly according to the cultural characteristics of the visitors.
