| Carrying the memories of history, clothing presents itself as a non-verbal sign and expresses a kind of social concept through concrete practices. The original function of clothing is to protect the body and modify the appearance.Later on,its social attributes have gradually emerged."Hanfu",as an important part of Chinese civilization,is the most representative traditional costumes in China, which carries the traditional culture of China.Basing on the semiotic theory of Roland Barthes, this thesis takes Hanfu as the study object, pointing out that Hanfu is no longer confined to the practical or aesthetic function in the traditional sense, but has a deep meaning as a symbol.By distinguishing such concepts as langue and parole, signifier and signified, and syntagm and paradigm of Hanfu, the author identifies its symbolic meaning like status, identity and power. In this way,a signifying system of Hanfu is constructed to draw people’s attention to its symbolic meaning as well as the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture. |
