The researches on the calligraphers and painters of Qing Dynasty are mainly in two forms:one is to separate them and do research one by one;the other is holistic research by categorize them into one type according to time, works, chronicle and so on.Whatever the research, the purpose of the study mostly point to the calligraphy and painting, style and aesthetic thoughts, etc. There is no doubt that the research has its inherent rationality and theoretical value, but the calligraphy and painting art,as a product of social practice,in the process of production,is inevitably influenced by the ecological environment. This thesis takes the calligraphers and painters around Yuan Mei as the object of study, and explores the ecological situations at that time based on combing their friendship with Yuan Mei.It focuses on the influences brought by the contact between Yu Mei and his friends through studying their experience of making friends, such as what’s the impact of Yuan Mei’s reputation, thoughts and contacts on the life of these artists, what’s the impact of these calligraphers and painters on Yuan Mei,what kinds of behaviors are adopted to deepen these impact, and what actions are recognized and eventually formed some patterns. This thesis also attempts to interpret the ecology of the painting and calligraphy circle from the aspects of material circulation, energy flow and information exchange with ecological theory, and then summarizes the ecological behavior pattern of this painting and calligraphy circle, and finally excavates some aspects of the living state of calligraphers and painters in Qing Dynasty from this model so as to supplement a new perspective for studying some calligraphers and painters in Qing Dynasty in the present academic circles. The first chapter makes a brief introduction to Yuan Mei;the second chapter summarizes the circle of Yuan Mei and his friends from three aspects:firstly, the reasons for Yuan Mei as the center of this calligraphy and painting circle;secondly, calligraphers and painters involved;thirdly, the mutual effects of the interaction between Yuan Mei and his friends. The third chapter elaborates the five ecological behavior patterns of "connection information exchange","fame and wealth exchange","material exchange","sympathetic for each other" and "affinity relation".Finally, the thesis sums up these calligraphers and painters put great emphasis on their own social status to reveal the social reality of "their anxiety for talent and fame".
