Research On The "Chang'an Painting School" In The Tang Dynasty

The painting of Tang Dynasty occupies an important position in the history of Chinese painting. During the 289 years of Tang Dynasty, there have been many painters, which created a lot of works. As the capital of Tang Dynasty, Chang'an also became an important city in terms of the painting of Tang Dynasty. Their painting activities and artistic achievements are very representative, which reflects the characteristics of the times and development level of the painting of Tang Dynasty. From the perspective of history view, the thesis uses documentary analysis to study "Chang'an Painting Faction" of Tang Dynasty systematically.Firstly, through the analysis of "Jiu Tang Shu" "Notes of Past Famous Paintings" "Tu-Hua Jian-Wen Zhi" "Xuanhe huapu" and other historical records of painting of Tang Dynasty, the thesis studies the evolution of the "Chang'an Painting Faction" of Tang Dynasty, including the formation in the early Tang, the development in the flourishing Tang and the decline in the late Tang Dynasty.Secondly, the thesis focuses on the important painters of "Chang'an Painting Faction" of Tang Dynasty, such as Yan Liben and his brother, Yuchi Bazhina and his son in the early Tang Dynasty, Wu Daoxuan, Li Sixun, Wang Wei, Zhang Xuan, Zhou Fang, Cao Ba, Han Huang and Han Gan in the mid-Tang Dynasty. It's helpful for understanding the overview of "Chang'an Painting Faction" of Tang Dynasty.Thirdly, through the comparative method, the thesis detailedly analyzes the achievement of "Chang'an Painting Faction" of Tang Dynasty from the aspects of figure painting, landscape painting, and flower-and-bird painting. The painting subjects of Tang Dynasty are developing constantly and each branch make it more colorful. In order to learn the achievements of the painting of Tang Dynasty, it is necessary to research each branch.In addition, the thesis also references the research methods of the fine arts, Historical Geography to explore the status and influence of "Chang'an Painting Faction" of Tang Dynasty. As the center of the painting at that time, its painting represents the highest level of Tang Dynasty, which has a profound effect on other parts of the country. This influence is reflected in both the flow of talent and mutual exchanges of their works. As a peak of ancient painting, "Chang'an Painting Faction" of Tang Dynasty also occupies a very high position in the history of Chinese painting, which lays a solid foundation for the gradual establishment of theme-and-technique system of Chinese painting during the Five Dynasties, Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty.It is an innovation to study "Chang'an Painting Faction" of Tang Dynasty as a whole. While regional study is a weakness in the study of Chinese art history.
