"zai" in Chinese preposition and "in" in English preposition are frequently used.In many English prepositions, preposition "zai" corresponds to the preposition "in" at the highest rate. When the foreign students is in the process of learning Chinese preposition "zai" and Chinese students is in the process of English preposition "in", semantic and grammatical errors often occur. Based on the predecessors'research achievements, this paper describe fully?compare and explain from the perspective of cognitive linguistics the preposition "zai" and the preposition "in".There are five parts in this paper.The first part is the introduction,which introduces the topic origin of this paper, current situation, the adopted theory, content and methods, purpose and meaning of the study.The second part describes the semantic and semantic extension of prepositions "zai" and "in", then makes an explanation in semantic from the perspective of cognitive semantics for both commonalities and differences.The third part describes the syntactic position and looming mechanism of the preposition "zai" and "in", then makes an explanation from the perspective of cognitive grammar in both commonalities and differences on the syntactic position and looming mechanismThe fourth part, based on the HSK dynamic composition corpus developed by Beijing language and Culture University and Spoken and Written English Corpus of Chinese learners, makes a classify, statistics, and comparative analysis the preposition "zai" bias errorof foreign students and Chinese students of the preposition "in" bias error.The fifth part is conclusion.Through the comparative analysis,this paper comes to five conclusions as below.Firstly, the metaphorical semantic of preposition "zai" and "in" metaphorical semantic is from the spatial schema, but because of the cultural features of image schema, the semantics of preposition "in" are richer than the the semantics of preposition "zai".Secondly,the phrase of "zai" and the phrases of "in" are used as adverbial and attribute in a sentence, but the differences of observer view which imply in the Preposition "zai" and "in" leads to the two different syntactic positions.Third, the semantic specificity of the preposition "zai" and "in" leads to that the looms mechanism of preposition "zai" looms mechanism is more complicated than the preposition "in".Forth, because of the preposition "zai" and "in" differences in cognitive psychology, the errors made by Chinese students' frequency is higher than the frequency of errors made by foreign students. Fifth, Foreign students' bias errors about Chinese preposition "zai" are mainly on looming errors, Chinese students' bias errors about English preposition "in" are mainly on semantic errors.
